Cycling to work everyday can be a pleasure and a pain. Sometimes though it provides a great form of entertainment. Especially if you have a dark “train-crash” sense of humour.
There is something about traffic during the commuting hours that makes the blood boil. It effects cyclists and car drivers in equal measure. We feel ourselves to be slighted at the smallest thing and are generally quick to anger.
Sometimes this anger is entirely justified. Whilst at others it is NOT. It is at these times when we have jumped to a conclusions that we can end up looking rather silly.
How often do you jump to conclusion only to realise that you have got it wrong? This can be embarrassing when we speak before we think!! I came across a fantastic example of this on Yet another cycling Forum. The bike rider had the following experience on his daily commute to work
I was only today telling my colleague about the time I pulled up next to a man in an Volvo, gestured for him to wind his window down (smile on my face, to signal I wasn’t going to be an arse). He put his window down and before I could speak, came out with “whatthefuckdoyouwantfuckingcyclistcuntallfuckingthesameiwasntevennearyou before putting his window up and giving me the finger. Indeed, he had given me plenty of room and overtaken at a sensible point and speed, however, it was pissing with rain an he had shut the bottom of his overcoat in the door, subject to all the crap off the roads that his front tyre kicked up.The embarrassment on his face was well worth me shouting to him why I had stopped
Have you had a similar comedy moment on you cycle to work? I would love to hear about it.
